About
the event

Sculpture and painting exhibition in Seligenstadt

The Darmstadt Secession is an association of visual artists that emerged in 1919 from a Darmstadt circle of friends of late Expressionist magazines. Within the diverse currents of this group, four artists are particularly distinguished by their common intersections.

They are Willes Meinhardt, Matthias Will, Werner Neuwirth and Gerd Winter.

In his paintings, Willes Meinhardt uses transparent materials as an essential and equal medium alongside color. Matthias Will is best known for his stainless steel sculptures spanned by wire ropes. Werner Neuwirth’s work is characterized by versatility and experimentation; he often works with the principle of layering. Gerd Winter’s color field painting, also known as “essential painting”, aims to be nothing more than pure painting. In addition to the ornament, the symbolic is of great importance in his works.
